History of Pilates

Joseph H. Pilates developed a form of exercise called Pilates in the 1920's. This form of exercise brings mind/body awareness, flexibility and core strength through emphasizing a balanced development of the body. It was originally used as a rehabilitative exercise program for prisoners of war. In later years it was found to be a great benefit to anyone seeking a higher level of fitness. Working with the 6 principles of centering, control, flow, breath, precision and concentration Joseph H. Pilates created a unique form of exercising that everyone can benefit from as well as continues to be ever evolving in the fitness world. Today Pilates is being used as foundation training for dancers, athletes and many rehabilitative programs.
